Picking Up Personal Objects Just By Smell

I have a friend who says she can pick up her own things just by the smell. I don't know how true this is, but apparently she can distuinguish her cane from someone else's next to it. Can anyone else do this? How does it work? I don't really understand that, but maybe some people do.

I can do things like that by touch or sound, but my sense of smell isn't that good.

I can't do that, smiles. Rely more on my hearing and touch.

Yeah, I'd also rely more on my hearing and touch. I'd certainly never be able to tell canes apart by the smells, lmfao.

Wow. i don't think I can do that either.

I guess you can put sented stickers on everything. Your shoes can smell like strawberries, and your cane, bananas.

Why on earth was your friend sniffing canes in the first place? Maybe this needs to be added to the list of blindisms along with rocking, and all the rest of it...

Post 12 by Eleni21 (I have proven to myself and the world that I need mental help) on Sunday, 22-Jun-2008 15:34:10

lol I've never even heard of anything like that. I think the only way I could do anything similar is if I were to spray cologne on my things or something. Then again, why would I want to? I can, however, tell different people's clothing based on their cologne. I can also tell who's entering or exiting a room based on how they walk.

Hahahahaha! I don't know why anyone would want to go round sniffing objects anyway.

Maybe a blind dog.

Post 17 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Tuesday, 24-Jun-2008 2:57:50

I couldn't do that either.

Lol, a blind dog? Funny I know of some one who did have a blind dog.

Apparently someone who used to come to this college had a blind guide dog. I thought guide dogs were our eyes.

Unless it was a blind dog needing a guide human.

Huh?

Post 22 by purple penguin (Don't you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do.) on Tuesday, 24-Jun-2008 12:31:48

I think someone needs a comprehention test. A guide human instead of a guide dog. Got it now?

Hey, watch it! I understood. I am just disturb.

OK. Strange ... this has turned from a discussion about smell to one about guide dogs and people! Hahahahaha!

Post 25 by Gilman Gal (A billy Gilman fan forever and always!!) on Friday, 11-Jul-2008 7:28:29

a blind guide dog? um... how the heck can that be possible? the blind, leeding the blind? wow...

Post 26 by DevilishAnthony (Just go on and agree with me. You know you want to.) on Friday, 11-Jul-2008 7:57:18

Being totally blind, and 90 percent deaf, I do rely on smell quite a bit. Yes, I could probably tell my cane apart from someone else's if my nose was barried in it, but then again, I don't really want to barry my nose in a bunch of stranger's canes just to find my own by smell.
And blind guidedogs? I know of one guy who worked his dog until it lost all it's sight, and he still tried to work it, and if the dog ran him in to anything, he'd correct it. What a dirty lowdown SOB, if you ask me. That dog had served him well for so many years. I personally think he ought to have realized that the dog was no longer able to do it's job, but I guess not everyone was put on this earth with the same amount of inteligence, or even compassion.

Post 27 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Friday, 11-Jul-2008 8:40:07

Who was an SOB? the guy or the dog, (or possibly both).
I could find my son's poopy diapers anywhere and probably distinguish them from those of strangers but I certainly wouldn't enjoy it much.
May be I should go sabotage and cause confusion by touching strangers' canes (hold on, that sounds a bit, eeehm, wrong) or spray cologne on them.
I could probably find my clothes by scent (depending what cologne I wear thugh, I don't have just one).

I can figure out some things by smell but lol, wouldn't go sniffing canes. My co-worker hasa lot of keychains hanging from her cane so it's easy to figure out where hers is lol smiles!!!

roflmao, sniffing canes isnt something i want to do anytime soon. lol. touch and sound is one thing, but smelling things? i mean, i wear a special kind of perfume and spray and stuff and i can recognize my clothes from my family's or something. but yeah, sniffing canes, lol, interesting.
